Kenny Holmes isn’t taking the stage at Remember to tell the story of building an organization. He’s taking the stage to talk about what came before it.
The uniform. War. Coming home. Losing friends. Watching others struggle. And eventually realizing that sometimes the people who appear to be doing fine are still fighting battles nobody else can see.

Kenny served 12 years in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman and deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Like so many Veterans, the experiences of war didn’t end when he took off the uniform.
The lessons, the losses, and the weight of what he saw continued long after he came home.
COMING HOME
ISN’T ALWAYS THE SAME
AS BEING HOME.
SOMETHING HAD TO CHANGE.
The struggles and losses of fellow Veterans—many of them people Kenny cared about—eventually became part of the reason FreedomSystem.org was founded in 2015.
What began with a simple belief that Veterans needed authentic connection with one another has grown into a community built around camaraderie, purpose, hope, and continued service.

As a friend who has lost people.
As someone who has watched Veterans struggle after coming home—and who believes deeply that isolation does not have to be the end of the story.

This year’s message is about what happens after the uniform comes off. The battles we don’t always see. The people we’ve lost. The people who are still here. And why remembering those we’ve lost must also mean fighting for those who are still here.
