Reflecting on Service and Lifelong Bonds
I retired from the army 51 years ago, yet I continue to reflect on the individuals with whom I served. Our collaboration, participation in team activities, and mutual support established a professional family and fostered a secure bond through shared experiences. However, upon leaving the service, those close connections are often lost; friends and family outside the military may not share the same point of reference as service colleagues, making it challenging to reconnect.
Seeking Understanding Through Shared Experience
When I wear my Army Security Agency hat, my intent is not to seek gratitude for my service, but rather to find others who understand my experiences and share a similar bond. Engaging with fellow veterans and exchanging stories provides a unique sense of camaraderie and reassurance that I am not alone. Proverbs 27:17 reminds us that "iron sharpens iron," emphasizing the importance of mutual support. If you feel isolated or misunderstood, remember that there are individuals who have faced similar challenges and can offer guidance and support.
As iron sharpens iron,
so one person sharpens another.
Join a Veteran Peer Support Group
FreedomSystem.org sponsors “4 Vets by Vets: Peer to Peer Veteran Support" groups every second and fourth Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., providing an informal environment for Veterans to share, connect, and enjoy camaraderie without judgment. We encourage all Veterans to join these meetings and take advantage of the opportunity to connect with others who understand their journey.
You Are Not Alone
Remember that Jesus promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us, so reach out and remember that you are not alone! We are here for you!
