The business meeting was held at Rulli’s Restaurant on CR-17 in Elkhart at 7 PM. The meeting was opened in due form by President K Holmes.

Vice President Tim Mangrum gave the opening prayer.

President K Holmes declared the business session open.

  1. Roll call of Officers: Completed by Secretary J Schrock.
  2. Reading of Membership Applications: None
  3. Reading of the minutes: Secretary J Schrock read (passed out) the minutes from the last meeting, and asked if there were any corrections or amendments. Seeing none Treasurer B Elliott made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Managing Director J Elliott seconded the motion and the motion passed.
  4. Treasurers Report: Treasurer B Elliott reported that FS Inc currently has (redacted) in the bank and (redacted) in Pay Pal. Secretary J Schrock made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Vice President T Mangrum seconded the motion and the motion passed. President K Holmes also announced that FS sent in our form 990 as of last month, so we should be good for another year!
  5. Bills: Treasurer B Elliott reported that all bills were paid and any/all accounts are settled and none are pending.

Unfinished Business: 1) President K Holmes reported that he completed the Volunteer Tab (or Participation Page) on the website. Everyone thanked him for completing this very important task. 2) President K Holmes told the group that only two (2) of the board members are still outstanding on having Microsoft Office installed on their home computers for FS work. Those should be completed by the next meeting, as scheduling has been an issue for all those involved. 3) President K Holmes brought up ink pens with the company logo on them as give-a-ways. A lengthy discussion ensued as to how many to buy, how much to spend, and the design of the pens. The company to purchase them from was decided and the design or color would be a white base color with a Navy Blue trim. The ink would also be black in color. 4) President K Holmes brought up the FS polo shirts and asked the group if they had gotten their polo shirts yet. Company representatives at the MSD are hoped to be wearing them in June. Secretary J Schrock told President K Holmes to buy one for him and have it embroidered and he would pay him, so it would be ready as soon as possible. Treasurer B Elliott and Managing Director J Elliott decided to go with another company for the shirt but will have it embroidered at the same place the company has it done. Managing Director J Elliott made a motion for FS to pay up to $15 per shirt, for the board members. Anything over that would be at the cost of the board members; this would include the embroidery fees. Secretary J Schrock seconded the motion, and the motion passed. Secretary J Schrock also suggested getting the branch of service embroidered on the right sleeve of the shirts. This is done for the VFW shirts and he liked the idea. All liked the idea, however, thought this could wait until later because of adding an additional setup fee per branch of service. 5) Secretary J Schrock said that he was still looking into cost issues for the pens, refrigerator magnets, etc. This is still a pending item for the next meeting. 6) President K Holmes brought up the RAC cards, asking the group how many they thought we should order. It was decided that 150 cards per/topic should be good. A total of 600 cards would therefore be needed. 7) President K Holmes announced that the web page is still in flux, there is still more to do. Just when we think it’s completed, something else pops up that needs to be done or fixed. Vice President T Mangrum is working on some fitness or workout routines for the website, great job Tim! President K Holmes said he and VP T Mangrum know a professional bodybuilder who has been the cover shot for various muscle magazines. Fitness and Muscle Magazines are only a couple of them he has been in and on the cover of. 8) President K Holmes said that he had had a couple of reports of people on our website and/or Facebook page swearing. All the features have been locked down pretty tight, but apparently, this is something we need to keep a closer eye on. If you see anyone swearing or making derogatory remarks, please let him know so he can take the post down ASAP. 9) President K Holmes asked about the link being enabled from the Goshen VFW Post website to Freedom System. Secretary J Schrock said that he had emailed the website manager to do so, but he didn’t know if it had been enabled yet.

New Business: 1) President K Holmes reported that he had held the first resume writing class for the organization. President K Holmes reported how rewarding it was to help teach the vets how to improve their skills and give them some more self-reliance. 2) Secretary J Schrock told the group about a possible item for sale in the FS store once we get further along. A digital camouflage backpack with the FS Inc logo on it, the logo could be black for a subdued look; or red, white and blue for a more patriotic theme. The backpack would also have a fast-snap-style belt buckle on it going around the waist. This would help a more active person wearing it, to secure it in place. Everyone liked the idea and thought it would be a great asset for a sale item once the company becomes more established. 3) President K Holmes brought up the possibility of buying our own silk screening machine/press. A used one (1) is out there for $100, but it can only do one (1) color. A lengthy discussion ensued and the topic was tabled for the moment. 4) President K Holmes told the group that he was thinking about making and selling Survivor Bracelets (bracelets made of paracord in different colors and worn around the wrist). The bracelets would have a fast-snap style buckle and be available in various sizes. HR Director S Holmes offered to make them in her off time. President K Holmes said he found spools of para-cord in 100’ lengths available for $9 each. It is estimated that each bracelet will take over ½ hour to make, but HR Director S Holmes still wants to make them. Everybody thought this would be a great idea, but added that the profits should probably be split between her and FS Inc. President K Holmes also said that he was thinking of making a badge or patch w/the FS logo on it, which would be woven into the top of the bracelet. This option is still pending as the cost of making this badge/patch is up in the air at this point. The idea of giving the bracelets away for a monetary donation was thought to be an additional idea. 5) President K Holmes announced that we were up to 606 likes on our Facebook page; we seem to be doing pretty good there!

Good of the Order: 1) President K Holmes asked the group what their thoughts were, as to do give away hand-outs at the upcoming MSD (Military Stand Down) in June. All thought it would be a good idea and a lengthy discussion ensued as to what to give away as well as how much to spend.

Next Meeting: it was decided to hold our next meeting on Tuesday, June 7th at 7 PM and again at Rulli’s.

President K Holmes asked if there was any further business. Seeing none, Managing Director J Elliott made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Secretary J Schrock seconded the motion. The motion passed.

President K Holmes gave the closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.

Secretary J Schrock
