Saturday, March 26th 2022

The business meeting was held at Signature Lanes, Elkhart Ind. The meeting started at 12 Noon and the meeting was opened in due form by President K Holmes.

President K Holmes gave the opening prayer.

President K Holmes declared the business session open.

  1. Roll call of Officers: Completed by Secretary Jeff Schrock.
  2. Reading of Membership Applications: None
  3. Reading of the minutes: Secretary J Schrock read (emailed) the minutes from the last meeting, and asked if there were any corrections or amendments. Seeing none Vol Jenn Schlorke made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Treasurer A O’Toole seconded the motion and the motion passed.
  4. Treasurers Report: H/R Dir J Schrock made a motion to suspend the reading of the income/expenses. E Dir S Holmes seconded the motion, and the motion passed.
  5. Bills: Treasurer A O’Toole reported there were no bills since our last meeting. H/R Dir J Schrock made a motion to accept the report. E Dir S Holmes seconded the motion, and the motion passed.

Unfinished Business: 1) President K Holmes brought up the fundraising dinner. See the attached “to do list” for specific details. 2) E Dir S Holmes announced that we are going to receive a $1,000 grant from the Elkhart County Community Grant program. They, in turn, will get a table at the fundraising dinner. 3) E. Dir S Holmes told the floor that High Gravity (the band playing at the dinner) had to back out. Via emails to the other board members, Just Cause was selected as the replacement. Their fee is $600 for the four (4) band members and one (1) sound guy. They will donate 10% to any charity FSO picks. It was suggested that the charity be FSO or Get Wet for a Vet. 4) President K Holmes reminded the floor, that Get Wet for a Vet donated $1,000 to FSO. They too, will get a table at the dinner. 5) President K Holmes went over ticket sales, and the radio spots. It was decided that ticket sales would start around 15 April. Radio spots would start mid-May. 6) E. Dir S Holmes went over the map for table arraignments for the dinner. 7) E. Dir S Holmes went over the time-table of events, to include the evening ending at 10 PM, and clean-up through 11 PM. H/R Dir J Schrock advised he had gotten a late departure time approved. 8) Gun ticket sales was also addressed. Two (2) handguns was approved and it was thought that a .9mm and a .45 would probably be best. H/R Dir J Schrock was given the authority to obtain what would be best from Doug’s Guns (a VFW member). Tickets would sell for $2 a piece, or twelve (12) for $20. 9) 50/50 ticket sales would be 1-$1 or 6-$5. 10) it was suggested that we get Edmund Fitzgerald beer for the keg. H/R Dir J Schrock would be in charge of checking on this w/VFW club manager. 11) H/R Dir J Schrock has a Margarita machine, and it was approved as a pre-made drink to hand out at the dinner. 12) E. Dir S Holmes set up a date/time for cozzie production. Sat, 2 April; any board member is welcome at their home. 13) Coffee, H/R Dir J Schrock was asked to get a count of boxes of coffee donated to the VFW, and if we could use some.

New Business: 1) President K Holmes told the floor that FS is no longer associated w/Steve’s Gym. A long harrowing story was told. We will now need to look for a new place to hold our Martial Arts Classes. As a side note – a lengthy discussion ensued as to buying some land and a building in the near future. 2) Treasurer A O’Toole brought up a hitch-mounted bike rack. The unit showed could hold seven (7) bikes. That unit though, cost $1,000. A lengthy discussion ensued as to buy a hitch-mounted unit, or an enclosed trailer for the bike program. 3) President K Holmes and Treasurer A O’Toole brought up buying a five (5) gallon Igloo cooler. H/R Dir J Schrock said he had two (2) in his basement used for the “Shop with a Cop Program”. He would be happy to lend one (1) or both to FS for the bike program. 4) President K Holmes reported to the floor, that the bike jersey’s came in. He showed a photo of them and everybody said they looked great. 5) E. Dir S Holmes suggested holding a resume’ writing class in the near future. It was suggested Tuesday, either 19 or 26 April at the Goshen VFW, around 6 or 6:30 PM. H/R Dir J Schrock is going to check availability.

Good of the Order: 1) E. Dir S Holmes brought up buying a shelving unit to store FS items on. H/R Dir J Schrock said he had one (1) he would donate, if it would work.

Next Meeting: Saturday, 16 April, Noon, at President K Holmes home in Elkhart.

President K Holmes asked if there was any further business. Seeing none, H/R Dir J Schrock made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Treasurer A O’Toole seconded the motion. The motion passed.

President K Holmes gave the closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
